For the past two years, the Foundation has been supporting and providing financial aid to the Humanitarian Association Gesta-Africa to carry out revisions and surgical interventions and thus improve the ocular health of the country.
This year specifically, the specialists displaced to the population of Bakel, located in the region of Tambacounda, have visited a total of 800 patients and have carried out a campaign focused on the “Surgery of the cataract”.
Thanks to the help of the Foundation, they have been able to rent a mobile surgical unit, as well as buy the necessary medical equipment to operate 133 patients (57 men, 72 women and 4 children,) administer the necessary medication after the surgery and perform 650 revisions.
The budget contributed by the Foundation, amounting to almost 11,000 euros, has also included awareness, training and prevention sessions for the local population. In addition, the Association has also provided ongoing training to nurses in the country so that in the future, international aid is no longer necessary.
Contributing to the improvement of the health conditions of the most disadvantaged populations in Africa is one of the main objectives of the Barceló Foundation and even more being a basic tool for human development such it is vision.
