The Foundation has renewed in 2019 the education program for 602 children between 3 and 18 years old with visual or hearing impairment, run by the Senderos de Maíz, in rural areas of the Sololá Department, in the center of Guatemala.
Since 2013, we have provided economic and financial support to the project of improving the health and education of indigenous people without resources with some disability or chronic illness, that only 14 % of the disabled population has access to education, and most of them don’t complete the primary cycle.
Thanks to the Foundation’s contribution, Senderos can afford school transport, and the salary of the teacher of the school of the blind, of several schools of the department of Sololá.
As a novelty, this year, an economic empowerment program, has been promoted for 12 people with sensory disabilities.
They will be granted a credit so that they can start a small business or productive activity, and in this way, they can increase their family savings.
