The Barceló Foundation committed to reinsertion into the labor market

2018.12.05 //

Together with the Foundation “Familias Unidas”, we have financed, in 2018 , the expansion of the Tourism and Hospitality Training Center in the Dominican Republic, to facilitate the reintegration into the labor market of people with scarce resources, especially young people and women.

The center is located in the capital, Santo Domingo, more specifically in the sector of the Guaricanos, a very poor area and with high levels of unemployment. This is one of the main problems facing the teenager youth population: the lack of opportunities to find a decent and solid job.

Aware of this reality and knowing that the Dominican Republic has a powerful tourism industry and therefore, a significant supply of employment in this sector, the Foundation Familias Unidas built in 2014 the first phase of the Tourism and Hospitality Training Center.

The Barceló Foundation has been in charge of financing the second phase and completing the reform of the center, as well as acquiring the necessary equipment to comply with the National Institute of Technical Professional Training (INFOTEP).

Thanks to the contribution of our Foundation, which amounts to almost 25 thousand euros, there have also been five training courses (room waiter, hotel chef, bar captain and restaurant, restaurant waiter and bartender) that have benefited more than 100 people and agreements have been signed with private companies to promote the insertion in the labor market of the students trained in the center.

The Foundation has as one of its main objectives to contribute to the improvement of education in those countries where access to it is not always easy, and more, if it is through rigorous entities such as Familias Unidas, which has more than 19 years of experience working in the field of international cooperation and has made more than 425 interventions in 5 different countries.
