One more year, we have decided to support the project carried out by Humanitarian Gesta-Africa Association to improve the eye health of the country’s inhabitants.
From June to September of this year, specialists displaced to the population of Niakhar, located in the Fatick region, have performed 116 ophthalmological surgeries with implantations of ocular prostheses (60 to women and 56 to men), as well as eye checks on children from 20 schools in the country.
The project is to complement and strengthen the National Programme to Combat Blindness, carried out by the country’s health authorities, which has a limited budget.
Thanks to the collaboration of our Foundation, the purchase of medical and surgical equipment has been financed. In addition, awareness-raising and prevention talks have been held for the local population and continuous training has been offered to the country’s nurses so that international cooperation will no longer be necessary tomorrow.
