The Foundation, together with the Emmaus Catholic Mission of Garissa (Kenya), grants 40 educational scholarships in the semi-desert area of Tana River to vulnerable children with a high intellectual capacity.
This area has been the one registering the worst academic results of primary and secondary education of the whole country during the last 5 years. This is due to the lack of educational infrastructure, an inefficient faculty and the high level of poverty of families that prevents them from paying for their children’s studies.
Thanks to our contribution, which amounts to about 44,000 euros, 40 young people with high abilities have received a scholarship to study at the San José school. In addition, we have financed the construction and equipping of a library in the same center to serve students from eight elementary schools, four secondary schools and other young people in the area through a book loan service. On the weekends, talks and seminars have also been organized to raise awareness among families in surrounding villages about the importance of reading in the educational process.
The objectives of the project are to improve the access of children to textbooks and knowledge in general, encourage reading and study among the youngest, reduce illiteracy and increase the educational level of the area.
More than 5,000 children and young people between 6 and 19 years old are the beneficiaries of this comprehensive education program.
